5 Newly Acquired Properties That Are A Pefect Fit For Disney (And 5 That Are Not)

6. Perfect: The Simpsons

If there is one show that comes to mind when you think of Fox Television it would be The Simpsons. Springfield's first family has been a Fox staple for 30 years and is synonymous with the network. With this merger, The Simpsons will now call Disney home.

Today we usually hear about The Simpsons breaking some crazy longevity record like longest running scripted television show, but younger fans may not know just how popular The show was in its prime. At its peak no adult animated show had ever seen the heights of The Simpsons and no show has since.

Although the show's ratings remain steady, it has not been at its best in quite some time. However, the show still has a dedicated fan base of those that remember the glory days.

What makes the franchise perfect for Disney is the cultural resonance. The Simpsons have mattered to people for three decades and they always will. People still wear their love for steamed hams and the monorail on their sleeve, literally and figuratively.

The evidence is in the products. Even if the show's ratings are just decent, the franchise still sells a ton of merchandise. The Simpsons may very well be the greatest licensing item Fox has ever had, given the company dropped the ball and let George Lucas keep the merchandising rights for Star Wars.

The Simpsons are still a draw and enjoy pop culture tenure. The family will be an ideal fit for television, amusement parks and, hopefully, another big screen outing.
