5 Newly Acquired Properties That Are A Pefect Fit For Disney (And 5 That Are Not)

5. NOT: Family Guy

Peter Griffin Mickey Mouse
FOX

The Simpsons are far from the only new long-running animated series at Disney's Disposal. Seth MacFarlane's Family Guy has been on the air since 1999 (with two short periods of cancellation) and has produced over 300 episodes.

Much like their Springfield counterparts, Family Guy enjoys a passionate following that it shaped during its prime. Although it never reached The Simpsons' heights, The Griffins were a big deal in the more recently. Whether it's Surfin Bird or Peter fighting a giant chicken, we all have our favorite Family Guy gags.

What separates the Griffins from their Fox inter-studio rival is their content. Both The Simpsons and Family Guy deal with American life with satire, but Family Guy does it in a far more raunchy and abrasive way. The Griffins may shake the table a bit too hard.

If you need an example, all you have to do is consider the way both shows have criticized their now parent company in the past. What you will find are subtle shots at Disney from Simpsons, mostly to the effect of calling it a faceless corporation. Family Guy, on the other hand, has openly called attention to Walt Disney's rumored anti-Semitism more than once.

That said, Seth MacFarlane's creation is a steady product that has given nothing but positive returns and the company will overlook the occasional low-blow if it those returns continue. Disney and Family Guy may not be a perfect match, but that doesn't mean we will be saying bye to the Griffins anytime soon.
