5 Oscars 2016 Nominations They Got Right (And 5 They Got Wrong)
4. No Best Director Nomination For Ridley Scott
Speaking of The Martian, the biggest surprise of the directing category is the lack of Sir Ridley Scott. It's got two of the big three, with Best Picture and Best Actor nominations, so it was widely expected that Scott would get one for Best Director. Not only that, but it was deserved. The Martian is fantastic on different levels: it's hilarious, for one, but then it's got those huge sci-fi trappings, and a human survivalist story, and it pulls all of this off while managing to look amazing as well. Scott, who is 78-years-old, it should be said (septuagenarians really kicked ass and taught everyone else a thing or two in 2015), is the man who made all of this possible, and a nomination - even if it wouldn't translate into a win - would've been deserved recognition of that.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
