5 Pixar Movies That Are More For Adults Than Children

Inspired by Mexico’s The Day of the Dead, Coco is a movie about death, loss, and memory.

Miguel (the central character) spends most of the film in the Land of the Dead. Though his adventure is brimming with rich colours and vibrant musical numbers, there’s a dark undercurrent that ripples throughout this animated feature. The central villain even turns out to be a murderer as well as a fraud.

Coco also grapples with the importance of family and how our loved ones never truly leave us as long as we continue to remember them. Whilst such concepts remain family-friendly, they strike a chord with adults the most because they are more likely to have experienced loss.

The other central theme of the movie – embracing who you’re meant to be – is easier for children to latch onto. But given how important death and memory are to the story, Coco is much darker than the average Pixar movie.
