5 Pre-Directing Ben Affleck Movies That Are Not As Bad As You Think

4. Reindeer Games

reindeer games Reindeer Games was not enjoyed by many for one reason and one reason only: people went in expecting a serious caper film with twists that make sense. They expected Heat, but walked out with something entirely different. The film only managed just over $30 million worldwide and scored a measly 25% on Rotten Tomatoes. For a dead on review of the film, I would recommend the one written by Pulitzer Prize winning critic Stephen Hunter for The Washington Post. Reindeer Games involved a man leaving prison and assuming the identity of his dead friend and roommate. This leads to an affair with the man's pen pal. It also leads to many other complications like a robbery and running from Gary Sinise. The film was derided for having basically no brain cells and stacking twist upon twist upon twist, but I say that was part of the fun. The script by Ehren Kruger was never meant to be taken entirely seriously. It harkens back more to a ridiculous B movie made in the 70s. If you sit down and watch it with that mindset, it's a ridiculously fun movie with a stellar cast. And if you really want to like it, keep the beer handy.
