5 Prometheus Questions We Still Want Answered

2. Is David Doing A HAL9000?

Michael Fassbender's performance in "Prometheus" is truly something to behold and has been lauded by people far more qualified than me to make decisions on its worthiness in this department. What seems odd are the actions of this state of the art robot. He liked to sniff the flowers and he even wanted to look like Lawrence of Arabia, so there were clearly some vanity bugs in his processor. What struck this reviewer was the similarity to Arthur C Clarke's HAL9000 computer. It received conflicting messages that threw a spanner into its works, sending it doo-lally and subsequently murdered everyone with lips to read. For example, why did David give Holloway the black liquid? Did he know what it would do to him? If so, how did he know? If he did know what it would do to him, why give it to him? Was he annoyed by Holloway's comments? Did he have a given agenda from Weyland? If so, how would Weyland have known the relevance of the black liquid? Why would a robot want to ride a bicycle whilst simultaneously playing basketball? And what is he eating? It looks like rice pudding. Would a robot need rice pudding? Arghh!
