5 Prometheus Questions We Still Want Answered

3. How Did The Crew Board Prometheus Without Knowing Where They Were Going?

The crew of this trip amounts to seventeen individuals. Given that some of these people were picked by Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron) for purposes that clearly were not known to the majority of the crew (they discussed a possible terraforming survey prior to the briefing), why only choose one biologist? Furthermore, would you have gone on a four year round trip to a destination unknown? Wouldn't it have made more sense to have a vast army of biologists, knowing that the real purpose of the visit was to potentially meet an alien civilisation, with a wealth of knowledge greater than our own? The project cost a trillion dollars, after all. Could they not have shelled out for a little more professional talent? How did two of the crew get separated and then lost from the rest of them. Prometheus had an elaborate 3D map of the entire ship in which they stood and telecommunications the likes of which we have yet to appreciate ourselves to keep in touch with people. Wasn't the storm the reason they couldn't come back? Why did they leave the group in the first place? Why didn't they go back to the ship, like they said they were going to? Apparently, the geologist didn't feel his services were required, despite travelling for more than two years to get there. Based on this assumption, why did the biologist leave with him, given that is his services were most definitely required?
