5 Reasons Indiana Jones 5 Should NOT Be Made (And 5 Reasons It Should)
4. Disney Don't Have A Great Track Record With Lucasfilm (Should NOT)
After Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, the hopes for a new era in the Star Wars franchise were riding high and The Force Awakens (a fair shake) came out of the gates with a bang. The Last Jedi (a shake-up) and The Rise Of Skywalker (shake and break) dropped the ball from a very great height.
Within the Lucasfilm umbrella lies the Indiana Jones franchise and Disney has full creative control over the next instalment.
Disney, despite a solid 10/10 for effort, have consistently failed on Lucas' IP again and again, perhaps with the exception of The Mandalorian. Whilst trying to appeal to everyone, playing it safe compounds the finished result into something that doesn't appeal to anyone.
Creative decisions at Disney are made in the boardroom, not in the writer's room - these movies now feel like the result of an algorithm, a collective set of equations designed to separate you from the contents of your wallet.
Perhaps Indiana Jones should continue riding that horse into the sunset - leave Crystal Skull as the 'one we don't talk about.' Indy's hat is worn out, yes, but it's not broken.
Whoever gets a crack at the new Indy movie, no matter how 'free' they seem, will surely sense the icy fingers of Ms. Kennedy and the execs around their perspiring necks if they step too close to the edge of the fiery pit - falling in should be a choice, not the result of corporate decisions.
