2. Kevin Smith Would Get Free Reign
Right now Smith works very independently. He works directly with fans and investors and releases and distributes his own films. But, it can take time for him to find financing for films like Red State and his ever changing Hit Somebody. With a Die Hard movie under his belt, he would have free reign to make whatever the hell he wants for as long as he wants. Despite A Good Day to Die Hard taking a thrashing from both critics and fans, the movie has already grossed over $100 million worldwide. John Moore will leave the whole experience unscathed and probably be a favorite for studios. Smith could do one giant Hollywood movie and, if it succeeds, have studios finance films like Hit Somebody and whatever else he wants to make. He can just keep promising a Die Hard 7 to convince them. Smith could make millions (even if the movie sucks) and take his web series, television shows, podcasts, films to the next level with or without studios. Sure, Cop Out was a commercial film but way more modest than a McClane adventure. Smith could make his mark with Die Hard 6 and then forever retire into tinkering away on his own films and projects because he was the man that saved the Die Hard franchise. To accomplish all this he would only first need to simply convince 20th Century Fox to let him direct a $100 million movie and convince Bruce Willis to toe the line while he picks up the camera once again. How would he do this? I don't know. Haven't figured that out yet. So far I'm thinking him and Jason Mewes show up at the pitch meeting as Jay and Silent Bob and try to sell their idea that way. It's still in the beginning stages. Clearly.
