5 Reasons Sabotage Is Arnold Schwarzenegger's True Comeback Vehicle

2. David Ayer

Sabotage David Ayer has a history of writing characters that are morally shady (Dark Blue, Training Day, Harsh Times, Street Kings) and the moral ambiguity of Sabotage's story suggests Schwarzenegger might end up with just that sort of role. Ayer is not in the business of writing upstanding men and women, he's in the business of writing complicated people. Furthermore, Ayer proved with last year's End of Watch that he was a major risk taker. The independently financed film broke trends and was met with mostly positive, but still mixed reaction when it came to its strange mix of steady cam/found footage reels and for its graphic and intense violence. Sabotage looks just as gritty and difficult to swallow as Ayer's last flick and that means Schwarzenegger is not playing it safe with his choice in director. Ayer has proven he doesn't like to direct things in normal ways and his new leading man will be no different.
