5 Reasons Why Donald Glover Definitely Won't Play Miles Morales In Spider-Man: Homecoming

2. The Movies Need To Focus On Peter Parker

OK, so let's buy for a second that Glover is a perfect fit for Morales and instead look at the character's suitability for the Homecoming universe.

Sony's primary goal of the new reboot (aside from to get Spider-Man consistently right so that they don't have to reboot) is to go back to the character of Peter Parker and build everything from the ground up, with the alleged plan being a cross-movie coming-of-age tale akin to Harry Potter. Captain America: Civil War's already started this off, introducing us to Peter's home life before his crime-fighting alter-ego and maintaining a strong focus on his age and level of maturity in the airport fight.

To bring in his successor in his first standalone film would be incredibly reductive of all that - you're negating Peter's journey by immediately telling audiences in the know that he has a clearly defined end from the off. Foreshadowing is good and if Marvel do go the Morales route eventually it would be nice to have him cameo in an earlier film, but after the mixed Andrew Garfield we need a proper take on this iconic character first.
