5 Sci-Fi Movies That Should Have Had Sequels... But Never Will
4. Jumper
Do you remember this film, because if you don't you really should. I watched this film in the cinema on its initial release and I remember leaving the cinema very satisfied with what I had just watched. I enjoyed this film more at the time than I enjoyed Iron Man 2, Thor and certainly more than I enjoyed any of the Hulks or Captain America. Jumper had stacks of potential and a great but fairly simple science-fiction storyline. This film also completely set up a sequel, and the film without a sequel makes little sense. There is so much to the mythology of this film that the sequel could have explored, and because the original (and only one) spent a lot of the time explaining what the Jumpers are and what powers they have, the sequel would have been free to be a much funner, more action filled film than the first. It is a great shame we will never see a sequel to Jumper (although there is a novel in which this film is based that maybe I should read). The ending of the first movie, and this storyline was built up all the way through the film, left us with the knowledge that Max's (Hayden Christensen) mother, played by Diane Lane, is a "Paladin", whose job it is to kill Jumper's like Max- though obviously she will not kill her own son. This film was planned and written as the first of a trilogy, and this is a trilogy that (even though the film had many negative critiques) I would very much like to see a conclusion to. At least the film was successful in making it's two leading stars (Hayden and Rachel Bilson of O.C fame) a romantic item, even to this very day... so at the very least this film can be considered one of the most expensive first dates in the history of the world.
