5. Spider-Man 3
I don't know about you, although I've heard opinion is pretty divided, but I hated the recent Spider-Man reboot passionately, and no amount of casting news will makes me excited for the sequel to that film. The only thing that has the potential to get me excited is if I hear that they are planning on introducing the Black Cat into the franchise- and bear in mind that I am a fan of both Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone (though not in this movie). Much of the reason I hated "The Amazing Spider-Man" so much was because I loved loved loved Raimi's Spider-Man world to the point that, even though I could recognize Spider-Man 3 was definitely the weaker film (mostly due to appalling choices and executions of villains) I still thought this film was far better than the rebooted version. By the time Spider-Man 3 rolled around I was already so invested in this film universe and these characters. I for one really wanted to follow Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson's relationship to its natural end, so obviously I was upset when I heard that instead of the planned Spider-Man 4, a reboot would be made instead. This was one of the darker news days in movie history I can remember, because the Spider-Man films (1 and 2 at least) were my favorite films as a teenager. Spider-Man 4 could have had the potential to be truly epic. Sam Raimi obviously was himself not happy about the way Spider-Man 3 turned out, and the reasons he decided not to do a fourth was because the studio was rushing him to completion much like with the third, and if he wasn't able to make a fantastic movie, he would rather make no movie at all. But the studio and the people around him should have given him his time and should have encouraged him to see this saga through, and to give a satisfying ending to this brilliant series of films. Even though I didn't agree with what they were planning on doing to the Black Cat to make that character clearly distinctive from Catwoman (funny then that Anne Hathaway was cast as the Black Cat in Spider-Man 4) I still very much wanted to see this character in the films, and Sam Raimi was going to give the world this never seen on screen before character. It is a shame that the world isn't really ready to have two different Spider-Man films out at the same time, because I would still love for Spider-Man 4 to be a possibility, and I am sure so many people out in the world would agree with me. My dream would be for Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker to be introduced into The Avengers films somewhere down the line... and I think this particular Spider-Man would suit that universe far more than Andrew Garfield's more teen focused Spider-Man would. In my dreams this is happening, but there is pretty much zero chance this will happen in reality.
