5 Surprising Cinematic Universes (And 5 Which Never Got Off The Ground)

3. Surprising: The 'Netflix Original Christmas Movies' Cinematic Universe

While Netflix's cheesy, cheerful Christmas films are certainly not everyone's cup of tea, this delightfully silly series has nonetheless amassed a considerable amount of fans.

Most notably, A Christmas Prince and The Princess Switch, two royal-themed original movies, have delighted audiences with their undemanding plots, saccharine dialogue, and, of course, sentimental romances.

A Christmas Prince centers on an American journalist who, having journeyed to a fictional, vaguely European kingdom, unexpectedly falls in love with a royal prince. The Princess Switch, which stars Vanessa Hudgens, focuses on the adventures of a Chicagoan baker who discovers that she bears a striking resemblance to a (again, vaguely European) Duchess. As in A Christmas Prince, Hudgens' character similarly falls in love with a handsome prince.

While neither film will win an Academy Award anytime soon, these sickly sweet movies have been unlikely hits on the streaming service.

Following the recent release of The Princess Switch 2, fans were shocked to discover that the two series exist in the same universe: viewers see Prince Richard (Ben Lamb) and Princess Amber from A Christmas Prince attend the coronation of The Princess Switch's Duchess of Montenaro.
