3. Machete
Machete is one of those franchises that exists due to the pure will power of its creators and the small fan base. It all started with a campy fake trailer that played during the double feature Grindhouse. When a full feature Machete hit theaters it actually didn't do too bad with critics. It scored 72% on Rotten Tomatoes. It did modest business at the box office and a sequel was released this year. However, Machete is a terrible movie. What should have been a fun and campy B-movie ended up being a mediocre mess. The movie kept the grindhouse and grungy feel for about twenty minutes and then tried to become a regular action movie which flat-lined the whole flick. On top of that, we ended up getting a movie that was far too political and far too complex for what it was supposed to be. Still, throughout it all, Danny Trejo f$#%&&% rocked as Machete. The guy always deserved a lead role and there was not a better one out there for him than Machete. Him and his machete deserved a better big screen adaptation. One that was more campy and a little more old school in its ways, but who doesn't want to root for Machete? He uses a frickin' machete, gets the girls and has his own brand of justice. He's one of the coolest characters in cinema and yet he comes from an entirely undeserving franchise.
