5 Times Jennifer Lawrence Proved Herself To Be The Perfect Woman

2. Handling Her Bow & Arrow In The Hunger Games

Lawrence is at her most adorable when being funny, but at her sexiest when being deadly. Her breakthrough role may have been as the indomitable Ree Dolly in Winter's Bone, but it was being cast as Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games trilogy which really sent her star into the stratosphere. That the character had such an immediately explosive impact on her career came as no surprise, no only because she almost single-handedly held together the first, disappointingly disjointed movie - Catching Fire, the first sequel, is an enormous improvement on all fronts - but because, questions over the colour of her skin apart (Katniss in the novel is described as having olive skin), she was such a perfect fit for the role. The battle-hardened determination which served her so well in Winter's Bone served her well once again, but as a male viewer, it's hard to deny that her handling of the iconic bow and arrow which really caught the eye. There's something about warrior women which is electrifying and terrifying in the most thrilling way, and Lawrence's Katniss is cut straight from the ferocious cloth which made Lucy Lawless' Xena such a cultural icon in the '90s. It would be remiss not to mention that Lawrence's performance is beautifully modulated between her Amazonian strength in combat and emotional frailty when alone or with loved ones, and if she weren't already awash with award nominations for her non-blockbuster work, would deserve at least a nod for her portrayal of Katniss. But now the critical appreciation is out the way... BOW AND ARROW, PHWOOOOOOAR!
