5 Times Nicolas Cage's Film Meltdowns Worked (And 5 Times They Didn't)

5. Good: Cut The Chit-Chat, A hole! (The Rock, 1966)

The Rock is a highly underrated film by Michael Bay starring Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage.

It centres around FBI agent Dr. Stanley Goodspeed (Cage) and ex spy John Mason (Connery) who work together to bring down a plot to launch chemicals weapons into San Francisco.

The film is full of heavy action scenes (it is Michael Bay after all) and witty dialogue between the two protagonists, but the best Cage moment comes when, during a sweet emotional exchange between Mason and his daughter, the police turn up to arrest Mason for his previous crimes against the United States. Goodspeed sweetly lies to the daughter, saying that Mason was not being arrested but was working for the FBI and had to be escorted to safety.

As Mason and Goodspeed walk off, the moment evaporates as Cage yells for him to "Cut the crap, A-hole." It must be noted, dear readers, that I am not censoring the profanity. In this deeply emotional scene, Cage literally says "A-hole" despite the film's R rating.

Perhaps there was too much foul language and violence throughout the film and Cage decided to reel it in for the big finale. You know, for the kids watching.
