5 Times Nicolas Cage's Film Meltdowns Worked (And 5 Times They Didn't)

3. Good: Get In My Bed (Moonstruck, 1987)

Between the releases of Raising Arizona and Vampire's Kiss, Cage co-starred alongside Cher in the classic romantic comedy and Oscar winning movie - Moonstruck.

The movie has everything: Cher (who won an Oscar for her role), Cage, romance, passion, a fake hand and the greatest speech about love in cinema history.

Loretta (played by Cher) is torn between marrying her fiance Johnny and being with Johnny's brother - Ronny (none of the writers pulled any muscles thinking of those names), who is young, unpredictable and can bake a mean loaf of bread despite only being one-handed.

This memorable scene is the point where the world is first introduced to the range and unpredictability of a Cage monologue. Whilst on a walk together through the city, Ronny perfectly summarises Loretta's feelings in a deeply impassioned speech about love and the uncertainty of it all in a bid to woo her away from his brother, Johnny.

Very few people can rattle off a monologue about love being a lie and finish it off by yelling to get in their bed to seduce a 37 year old widow but, as we know, with Cage all things are possible.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
