5 Reasons Ghost In The Shell Won't Live Up To Fan Expectations
3. Bad Casting
We'll get on to the Major herself in a moment, but fans could also be fearful about the casting of the other characters in the show.
Even though it is Motoko that makes Ghost In The Shell so appealing, her fantastic ensemble of team mates have their individual parts to play as well.
Batou, another cyborg whom is second in command of section 9, will be one of the toughest nuts to crack. He is always depicted as being huge in stature and not particularly attractive, but light hearted and hot headed at the same time. Because the Major and Batou do share some more intimate moments, and it is suggested in the Stand Alone Complex series that Batou has always loved the major, whoever is cast as the character will no doubt have to fit the standard of beauty that Johansson is at for any relationship to be believable.
Hopefully, all inclinations of romance will be kept to a minimum, but there is also Togusa, physically and emotionally the most human member of the team, who could risk the chance of being downplayed as some sort of minor wimpy character.
Although no other characters have been set in stone, the casting of Johansson has not filled die hard fans with much hope, which moves us swiftly on to the next problem...
