5 Ways X-Men: Days Of Future Past Should Setup Future Sequels

5. Exploring More Of The Existing Universe

Orig 1385507353284 After the recent retrospectively focused franchise additions, it's easy to forget that the X-Men films are ostensibly set in the future. Aside from First Class and X-Men Origins, the main entries in the franchise always start with "In the not so distant future." You really have to give it to them, if their plan was to set the first X-Men in the year 2013 they probably have one of the most accurate predictions for the future since Terminator 2. But leaving aside the mutant dilemma that the film's society is facing, their version of reality and ours are practically indistinguishable. Obviously it is understandable that with a film like this you have to choose between screen time devoted to showing the mutant culture in other part of the world and a great battle scene during the climax, but it still would be quite interesting to see much more of the wider universe the films are set in. The addition of the Sentinels and Trask Industries is definitely a great step forward to offering some more of this broader focus. The Trask Industries website offers much more about The Sentinels and the way the rest of the world looks at mutants, which helps to expand the universe and make it much more interesting for the viewer, not to mention that you can have an already established character involved in action that spreads the focus wider.
