4. Introducing New Characters
The X-Men has an incredibly rich pool of characters available, thanks to the bounty of the source. The comic book story arcs offer diverse focus on far more of them than the film universe has yet, and there is more than enough material devoted to characters' backgrounds and individual stories to warrant a broader focus on some of the supposedly lesser characters. In fact, there's definitely enough material to have several different X-Men teams across various different movies. Right now the X-Force movie is in development at Fox, and so far we really don't know anything about it apart from the fact that we should expect a release in the coming years. That film obviously offers an opportunity for expansion of the character base, but it would be interesting to see some of the cast of that movie introduced in Days of Future Past, or for some established characters of the existing X-Men movies playing key roles in that film to tie the two threads together. Expanding out from the new characters introduced in Days Of Future Past would mean the film-makers had a precedent: they will have already tested with the X-Men audience before creating a movie that could be a failure. We could also see narrative strands hinted at in Days... that could become the focus of the plot in the X-Force movie, or spun-off into other sequels.
