Ron Howard helms a biopic of the 1800s whaleship Essex's crew, namely Captain George Pollard, Jr. (Benjamin Walker), first mate Owen Chase (Chris Hemsworth), second mate Matthew Joy (Cillian Murphy), and cabin boy Thomas Nickerson (Tom Holland). After an attack from a huge sperm whale leaves them shipwrecked, the survivors must attempt to sail to South America against all odds. With a tale that involves the grimmer elements of survival (namely cannibalism), it'll be interesting to see how Howard juggles the tone of the piece, though hopefully it'll evoke a Master and Commander-esque vibe, which would fit Hemsworth like a glove.
