Fresh off the enormous critical success of his surreal drama Birdman, Alejandro González Iñárritu is prepping a Western movie, adapted from Michael Punke's 2003 novel of the same name. Set in the 19th century, the plot revolves around Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio), a fur trapper who is mauled by a bear, robbed by his friends (Tom Hardy, Will Poulter, and Domhnall Gleeson) and left for dead. Glass lives, however, and sets out to wreak bloody revenge on the three men. Naturally, with such a prestigious cast and crew (Terrence Malick favourite Emmanuel Lubezki is the cinematographer) and an awards-friendly release date, this one will be shooting for all the Oscars. Can DiCaprio finally scoop that long overdue Best Actor award? It will depend hugely on the quality of the script from Iñárritu and Mark L. Smith (Vacancy, The Hole), as everything else is a total no-brainer Release Date: December 25th
