Based on Tom Rob Smith's 2008 novel of the same name, Child 44 takes place in the Stalin era-Soviet Union, as a disgraced MGB officer (Tom Hardy) finds himself chasing a killer, only to discover that it goes all the way up the political food chain. Daniel Espinosa (Easy Money, Safe House) should prove a solid director, and with a cast this insanely good (Hardy is joined by Gary Oldman, Noomi Rapace, Joel Kinnaman, Vincent Cassel, Paddy Considine, Dev Patel, Jason Clarke and Charles Dance), it would have to step seriously wrong not to hit the mark. Though its exclusion from Oscar season was a surprise, that doesn't mean it's not a rock solid historical thriller. Release Date: April 17th
