More than a decade before WB announced 2016s Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice, the studio planned to jumpstart the then-stalled Superman and Batman movie franchises with a similar slugfest penned by Andrew Kevin Walker and revised by Akiva Goldsman. The film was to be directed by Wolfgang Peterson, in it, both Batman and Superman are slightly older and suffering from respective tragedies. The two are drawn together after Bruce Wayne's new bride is murdered by Joker and Lex Luthor is implicated in the conspiracy. WB was eyeing Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader and none other than Josh Hartnett as the Man of Steel. The movie eventually got shelved to make way for Christopher Nolans Dark Knight Trilogy. Fortunately, fans looking forward to seeing these iconic heavyweights finally air their grievances on the big screen won't have to wait much longer.
