50 Comic Book Movies That Almost Got Made

1. Edgar Wright's Ant-Man

Many people are unaware of this, but the development of an Ant-Man movie actually began as early as the late '80s, when Ant-Man co-creator Stan Lee pitched the idea to New World Entertainment, Marvel Comics' parent company at the time. However, Disney was developing a film based on a similar concept, Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, and although Ant-Man went into development, nothing came to fruition. Fast forward to 2003, Edgar Wright, along with his writing partner Joe Cornish, wrote a treatment for the film. It wasn't until 2006 that Marvel Studios actually hired Wright to direct Ant-Man as part of the company's first slate of independently produced films. Fast forward once again to 2014, Wright officially drops out of the project citing "creative differences" - and leaving Peyton Reed to pick up the directing baton. The loss of a director at such a late developmental stage is a tough hurdle for any film to overcome. Given that Wright had invested so much of himself into the film, the resulting product could end up being a weird hybrid of ideas that never quite gels. And who the hell wants that? What say you? Which of these films would you have liked to see come to fruition and which are you glad never did? Let us know in the comment section below.
