50 Greatest Action Movies Of All Time

41. The Killer (1989)

The Killer
Film Workshop

Perfecting the formula that would serve him well over the next decade, The Killer sees John Woo apply his signature style to a kinetic and violent action movie that features strong character work as well as plenty of impeccably-staged gunplay.

The final extended shootout at the church is nothing short of incredible and one of the finest gunfights ever put to film, but the real strong point of the movie is the work done to make us care about the characters, especially the relationship between Chow Yun-Fat's hitman and Danny Lee's detective.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
