Plot: Samantha (Jocelin Donahue) goes to house-sit for a mysterious stranger (Tom Noonan, as wonderfully creepy as ever), but things soon go horrifically awry.

Over a decade before his thoroughly enjoyable homage to slasher cinema, 2022's X, Ti West made this absolutely smashing tribute to the horror films of yesteryear which was arguably even better than his recent hit.

Meticulously crafted to look and sound like an '80s horror film, House of the Devil is an infectiously fun and nostalgic pastiche where you can feel West's love for the genre running through every frame of it. See Hollywood, this is how you do a nostalgia-fest.

But aside from its well-crafted homage, it's also a very well-done horror film in general. It's a deft, thoroughly well-acted piece of slow-burn horror that builds up the tension to almost unbearable levels before unleashing a bloodbath of a final act that'll leave viewers picking their jaws off the floor.
