50 Greatest James Bond Moments Of All Time

2. Goldfinger: Laser Scene

The Spy Who Loved Me
MGM & United Artists

This legendary scene - in which James Bond is interrogated with a laser moving slowly towards his manhood - has been parodied and copied many, many times, yet even after this it still feels completely timeless.

Goldfinger's laser scene is a gripping, nerve-shredding and genuinely palm-sweating exercise in suspense. Sean Connery's Bond never looked more terrified than he did here and when Goldfinger finally switches off the laser you'll probably collapse with relief.

This scene is made even more spectacular by the outstanding acting from Sean Connery and Gert Frobe (as well as voice actor Michael Collins, who dubbed Frobe as he didn't speak English very well), and by some terrific dialogue, especially this all-timer quote:

"Do you expect me to talk?" "No Mr Bond, I expect you to die!" Classic.

This scene is also a lovely combination of nearly everything people love about Bond: nail-biting thrills, cracking performances, sly humour and that otherworldly, wonderfully escapist atmosphere that made James Bond unlike anything else on the film market.

It's a note-perfect scene, so what could possibly be better?
