50 Huge Movie Characters That Were Completely Miscast
30. Tom Hanks As Col. Tom Parker - Elvis
You would be forgiven for thinking that Tom Hanks could do no wrong, because that's pretty much what everyone in the world thinks of him. His popularity is astounding, his body of work extensive and impressive to say the least, and he just comes across as a downright decent guy.
All this only makes it harder to process the fact that as Col. Tom Parker, manager to Austin Butler's titular Elvis, Hanks is easily the worst part of the film. That may have never been said before 2022, but it's the truth now.
It's difficult to picture Hanks as anything but the good guy, so as the "blood sucking" Parker, it was a casting that was always going to be a hard sell. Then there were the prosthetics needed to bring the character to life that didn't exactly do him any favours, and though it's not his fault, acting opposite the terrific Butler was far from helpful.
Then there is the accent, that awful, awful accent. There will be plenty of talk on this list about actors swinging and missing at dialects others could have played with ease, but in most cases, at least you could largely tell what they were aiming for. What in the hell was this?!
