20 years ago, Pixar answered the not quite nagging question of your toys do the minute you leave the house and now Universal are answering an even more pressing one: whether pets genuinely do act like humans when we aren't looking.

Combining that irresistible storyline with the talents of Louis CK, Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart and Steve Coogan and an age old tale of good versus evil (or loved family pets versus nitter flushed away ones) makes for a very intriguing prospect. And that charming first trailer elevated the animation higher than the strength of the Minions spin-off (which made enough money that Universal probably don't particularly care about how poor it was).

Here's hoping for a mender.
