29. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

Having made the excellent Crazy, Stupid, Love, directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are next tackling this comedy adaptation based on the memoirs of Kim Barker, a journalist who worked as a war correspondent in Afghanistan and Pakistan. That she did so to free herself form a tedious work place and a needy boyfriend gives the story a refreshing spin and major potential for comedy.

It's basically a fish out of water comedy, with the added prospect of the kind of emotional nuance that the directors have brought to all of their films and a hugely talented cast. Tina Fey is in the lead role, Martin Freeman will play her love interest (a Scottish fellow journalist), and the rest of the cast is made up by the likes of Margot Robbie, Alfred Molina and Billy Bob Thornton. You can have faith that no-one involved will ignore the pathos or the importance of the context, which in itself is a rather big selling point.
