50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2016 - Ranked

23. Rings

Despite the fact that the age of VHS is over and the time of The Ring being a thing ended 10 years ago, Akiva Goldsman has taken another crack at the haunted tape horror (with a little help from two other writers whose work he has hopefully improved rather than mangled).

This time out, the film will be taking a pretty major lead from the brilliantly scary It Follows as a group of teenagers seek a victim to watch the film to pass on the curse of Samara (who has somehow got out of the well she was left in at the end of The Ring Two). They will be guided - in true Giles fashion - by Johnny Galecki as a college professor.

The idea of the victims turning villains themselves by necessity is an interesting new take, even if it makes them all the more expendable, and it's about time we all got to see that creepy girl crawling out of TVs again. Let's just hope for no Scream 4 ultra-modern updating.
