50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2016 - Ranked

5. Suicide Squad

After Heath Ledger's wonderful, transformative performance as the Joker stole the hearts of every Batman film fan in The Dark Knight, it was inevitable that anyone who dared try and replace him would be met with a certain degree of resistance. That the new Mr J would come in the shape of Jared Leto - an excellent but for some reason under-appreciated actor - covered in tattoos, sporting a grill and carrying a pimp coat raised more than a few eyebrows.

But temporarily putting any concerns about character design down to the same reluctance to embrace Ledger at first, Suicide Squad looks like a thrilling new step in the comic book movie. It obviously shares genetics with The Dirty Dozen and the original Inglorious Bastards, and the prospect of seeing lower level Batman villains sharing the screen with fan favourites like Harley Quinn, Deadshot and the new Joker is genuinely very exciting.

And of course we get to see more of Affleck's Batman, which will hopefully still be a positive after Batman V Superman.
