There's a good chance The Greatest Showman - 20th Century Fox's musical biopic of PT Barnum - will benefit from the positive PR the musical genre will receive when La La Land is released across all worldwide territories, in a similar way to post-Chicago musicals getting something of a boost.

Even without that, it's eye-catching enough for fans of the genre and more mainstream cinema-goers, thanks to the presence of Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron in the leads. Both have musical pedigree, and so too does Bill Condon (who is joined in writing duty by Little Miss Sunshine's Michael Arndt and Jenny Bicks), so expect an assured, decidedly festive year-ender.
