50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2017 - Ranked
24. Baywatch
As if you don't know already, The Rock is probably going to be the highest grossing actor of 2017 (mostly because when you and I are engaged in such trivialities as sleeping or eating, he's in the gym or filming another project). Of the three films he has hitting screens this year, Baywatch is probably the most slight and will probably make the least (though we're still probably talking hundreds and hundreds of millions).
To be honest, the idea of a big screen Baywatch remake was always a strange one, particularly as Hollywood seems to have zero sense of humour about remakes these days, replacing nostalgic glee with po-faced MODERNITY and grit in most cases. But wouldn't you know it, the first trailer announced Baywatch as a more tongue-in-cheek, self-aware experience with some meta-commentary on "making life-guarding relevant again" with sexy new stars.
The Rock always plays straight well (though he's also very funny), and Zac Efron might legitimately be one of the most underrated comedy actors working at the minute. Fight me. So there's a lot to be excited about - particularly as this looks a little like a more comic Fast & Furious at the beach (like, without cars, obviously).
