48. Ferdinand
What the world needs now, with everyone losing their head over giant fingers paused tantalisingly over giant metaphorical red buttons is a film about a pacifist bull with a good heart. Having already been made by Disney as a short in 1938 (and having won an Oscar in the process), the story of Ferdinand the Bull will answer that particularly pertinent requirement at Christmas.
The story works well as a short: it's fairly limited in its exploration of violence and gentle nature, and it will be interesting to see how animation veteran director Carlos Sandanha will manager to spin it out into a feature. With such a well-known story, there will hopefully be more impetus on how the film looks too, rather than the slightly cynical approach Blue Sky have lately taken to the Ice Age franchise.
