It goes without saying by now that Hollywood loves reploughing old fields for nostalgia hits, and the latest attempt to make us all feel young again comes in the shape of Power Rangers. For some, it's a fool's errand, because part of the show's original charm was its inherent kitsch-ness (it looked bad, it was camp and mostly it was utterly ridiculous), but that's never stopped the Hollywood machine before.

The first reveal of the costumes was divisive to say the least (the armoured bobs on the female Rangers are just unnecessary), and there's definitely a sense that they're trying too hard to turn something that was incredibly cartoonish into something else far more serious. Kudos to them if it works though. Let's just hope they don't lose what made the show so popular in the first place.

Remarkably, the trailer, which seems to suggest a Chronicle-like origin story for the Rangers, isn't half bad and it's refreshing to see a beloved childhood brand not being dragged kicking and screaming through the lopsided, explodey universe of a Michael Bay type.
