26. Tomb Raider

2018 In Film
Warner Bros.

Even despite some ropey games in the franchise as Lara Croft started to get a little longer in the tooth as a character, the Tomb Raider brand continues to be big business, and it was inevitable that we'd end up with a belated new addition to the big screen franchise after Angelina Jolie's passable efforts.

On the back of the gritty game reboot, we're getting a new look at the character, this time played by Alicia Vikander who is central to the origin story, which will hopefully include some tomb raiding. She's joined on the cast by Dominic West - playing her presumed-dead father - and the delightful Walton Goggins as the villain.

Goggins himself has described the film as "Raiders of the Lost Ark meets a genre version of the Joseph Conrad novel Victory: An Island Tale," which sounds excellent. Just as long as they downplay the fact that it's still a video game movie, because they usually don't do so well.
