14. Mortal Engines

2018 In Film
Universal

Otherwise - and unfortunately - known as The Hungry City in America, the Mortal Engines books are as beloved as they are excellent, and it's about time someone adapted Philip Reeve's vision to the big screen. Doing so was always going to be a challenge - given that it would require giant steam punk moving cities fighting and eating each other - but Peter Jackson is definitely up to the task.

It's been a long time coming, but that hopefully means it has fully gestated properly, and we can also only hope that he has learned from the problems of The Hobbit series and found the right story elements to adapt and what to leave out.

Word from the set is that the practical effects and set design is stunning, and the idea of Jackson's imagination let loose on another fantasy world is still a huge draw.
