Nobody in their right mind could ever possibly claim that there hasn't already been more than enough Transformers movies, but with the franchise continuing to pull in hundreds of millions every time Michael Bay coughs out a plotless barrage of explosions, it's no surprise we're in for more.

The next will represent Paramount's first real steps into turning the series into an expanded universe, with a spin-off featuring the most charismatic of all the robots in disguise - Bumblebee, as he strikes out alone. Alongside him will be the assured box office draw of John Cena and Hailee Steinfeld who get to show the human side of the 1987-set prequel story.

It's probably best to expect more of the same, but at least there's some intrigue to be found in the hiring of Laika's Travis Knight who will hopefully bring something of his own eye for story-telling to the table, rather than just doing what Michael Bay would have.
