41. The New Mutants

To a certain extent, New Mutants is like the awkward outsider standing on the edge of the school dance watching everyone else getting asked to dance. Darker, stranger and more edgy than the mainline X-Men movies (all of which was initially suggested as its specific selling points), the spin-off is now in the unenviable position of having to justify its existence while everyone looks towards the new Disney X-Men movies that will surely be announced soon.

In combination with fairly well-publicised production issues, this makes the film feel a little like an unwanted hangover and its frequently shifted release date does nothing to boost confidence. But pushing that all aside, this is still an X-Men movie, it still has a great cast (including Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams) and it's something different. So it's still an intriguing one to keep an eye on.

Maybe expect "X-Men" to be officially added to the title before its release...
