If The Greatest Showman proved anything in 2018, it's that there's an enormous appetite among film fans for musicals. That film's success and the impact made by both Mamma Mia 2 and A Star Is Born on the back of longer-term successes like Chicago, La La Land and Les Mis suggests we all love a bit of a sing-song.

Now, some decades after it looked like it might initially be made (as an animation in the 1990s), Les Mis director Tom Hooper is bringing a live action adaptation of the long-running fantasy musical to the big screen. It'll star the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, James Corden, Idris Elba, Rebel Wilson, Sir Ian McKellen, and Judi Dench and fans of the stage show should flock.

Or whatever the cat version of flocking is.
