50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2019 - Ranked

36. Artemis Fowl

Artemis Fowl
Disney

Hollywood has tried to recapture the Harry Potter magic several times by turning towards popular YA fiction titles and in that vein of thought, Artemis Fowl's rights were picked up way back in 2001 by Miramax. But from there, the project simply drifted into Development Hell, with several mooted iterations not making it to the big screen.

Disney came along in 2013 and now Kenneth Branagh has made an adaptation a reality. It will star newcomer Ferdia Shaw as Artemis Fowl, who embarks on an attempt to rescue his criminal father and restore the family fortune by proving the existence of fairies.

It's pretty unDisney to see a film about a criminal, but difference is never a bad thing and it sets it apart from the other Potter contenders. Plus there's a great supporting cast (including Judi Dench and Josh Gad among many others) and Branagh knows how to tell fantastical but relatable stories.

Release Date: 9th August 2019
