The legendary tale of the little elephant that could might not immediately have leapt out as a strong option for Disney's live action treatment, but the advances the studio has made in animal animation on the backs of The Jungle Book and The Lion King are clearly being put to good use.

Just as strange is the decision to hand the reigns to Tim Burton, since it's not exactly the dark material he's usually drawn to (apart from in patches), but he did make Disney an inordinate amount of money on Alice In Wonderland, so that's perhaps why.

You know the story by now, the CGI looks great according to the trailer and the cast - including Danny Devito, Michael Keaton, Eva Green and Colin Farrell is equally impressive. If it captures the Disney magic and some of Burton's better imaginative spirit, it'll be a joy.
