50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2019 - Ranked
17. The Irishman
Despite Quentin Tarantino's ascertion that all directors lose it the longer their careers go on (because of the loss of their desperation and the hunger and fear of the artist), Martin Scorsese seems blissfully ignorant of the trend and continues to make incredible movies. He's made nothing since Silence, but he's had plans to make The Irishman with Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro for years and it's finally coming off thanks to Netflix.
While there's always a little hesitation about movies "dumped" on Netflix now, the reality of this project is that the platform was the only studio willing to finance Socrsese's passion project (which is rumoured to be costing $170m) and the release type shouldn't reflect quality. What will reflect that is the cast, which also includes Anna Paquin, Harvey Keitel, Ray Romano, Jack Huston and Stephen Graham among many, many others) and Scorsese returning to gangster film-making for the tale of Jimmy Hoffa's assassination.
There's no release date yet, but it'll be worth the wait.
