16. A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood

Putting aside the nagging pain of having to use the US spelling of neighbourhood in the title, A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood is very possibly one of the most charming projects in production right now. How could it not be? It takes one of America's most beloved children's TV icon - Mr Rogers - and teams his story up with the most wholesome of wholesome actors, who has similarly infectious charm: Tom Hanks.

This isn't a straight biopic: it's more the story of Rogers' impact on people (you can't get moved for stories of his real-life influence on pretty everyone he ever encountered) and there's a very real chance that this will be 2019's answer to the beautifully touching Saving Mr Banks.

Opposite Hanks, Matthew Rhys plays the Esquire journalist tasked with writing his story and if the success of Won't You Be My Neighbor? - the Mr Rogers documentary released last year - is any indication, the talented Welshman could be in for a serious profile boost off the back of it.
