50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2022
34. The Fabelmans
Steven Spielberg will follow up his spectacular - albeit commercially disappointing - West Side Story remake with something altogether more intimate and personal.
The Fabelmans is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age drama based on the filmmaker's own childhood growing up in Arizona. Michelle Williams and Paul Dano will star as protagonist Sammy's (Gabriel LaBelle) parents while Seth Rogen will play his uncle.
This is Spielberg's first stab at writing his own movie since A.I. two decades ago, though he'll be collaborating with Tony Kushner, who previously penned Munich, Lincoln, and West Side Story for him.
This is naturally attracting a ton of awards buzz before anyone's seen a single frame of it, and could be one of the most singular works of Spielberg's entire career.
The Fabelmans releases on November 23.
33. Don't Worry Darling
Olivia Wilde will follow up her terrific debut Booksmart with something completely different: a psychological thriller the particulars of which are being held firmly close to the chest.
Florence Pugh plays Alice, an unhappy 1950s housewife who discovers that her husband (Harry Styles, replacing Shia LaBeouf who was fired shortly before production started) harbours a dark secret.
From the short teaser trailer it's clear that there's some sort of trippy genre bent to the story, and Wilde is clearly not simply repeating herself for her sophomore effort.
The supporting cast includes Wilde herself, Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne, Nick Kroll, and Chris Pine.
Don't Worry Darling releases on September 23.
