50 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2023
14. The Flash
Following numerous delays and controversies following lead actor Ezra Miller, The Flash solo movie will finally release this coming summer.
Andy Muschietti (It) helms the Flashpoint-inspired film in which Barry Allen (Miller) will travel back in time in an attempt to prevent his mother's (Maribel VerdĂș) murder.
Most intriguingly, the ensuing multiversal shenanigans will see Michael Keaton reprise his role of Bruce Wayne from Tim Burton's Batman movies, while Ben Affleck will also appear as the DCEU version of Wayne.
Furthermore, General Zod (Michael Shannon) will return in some form, while the film will mark the debut of the new Supergirl (Sasha Calle).
While there are understandable worries that The Flash will tee up a bunch of stories which will only be wiped out by the ongoing changes at Warner Bros., the film has reportedly been testing very well, so on its own terms it'll hopefully give DC fans something to cheer about.
The Flash releases on June 16.
13. Barbie
Margot Robbie is nothing if not a note-perfect choice to portray a live-action version of Barbie, and with the great Greta Gerwig (Little Women) both directing and co-writing the script alongside her partner Noah Baumbach, there's every reason to believe this will be a self-aware blast.
From the images we've seen so far - both official and leaked - it clearly knows exactly what it is and endeavours to address both the positive and problematic aspects of Barbie's history as a brand.
Ryan Gosling looks hilarious as Ken, and given that the film is also set to feature different versions of the couple - played by the likes of Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Issa Rae, Ncuti Gatwa, and Hari Nef - it'll probably be as close to a Multiverse of Barbie movie as we'll ever get.
The visuals look absolutely spectacular, though with a $100 million budget at stake, hopefully all the memes will translate into actual box office bucks.
Barbie releases on July 21.
