50 Most Exciting Upcoming Comic Book Movies - Ranked

22. Sandman

Status: Announced Due: TBA Key Players: Joseph Gordon Levitt is definitely involved, but there€™s no clue whether he€™s starring as Morpheus or directing. David S Goyer helped with the pitch, which will be overseen by New Line Cinema. What€™s It About: Long considered unfilmable, Neil Gaiman€™s unsuper comic book movie is a mind-bending portrait of dreams and destiny that takes a lot to understand. Why We Should Care: It€™s a very brave project, so it deserves attention for that alone, but importantly, it€™s also a female-centric comic (at least in terms of its audience), which will hopefully see a different type of adaptation to what we€™ve seen before.

21. The Killing Joke

Status: Confirmed Due: 2016 (ish) Key Players: This is the biggest release on Warner Bros Animation€™s slate, and the most controversial. Let€™s hope that both Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill return to their iconic roles. What€™s It About: The iconic, infamous story by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland finally gets a screen adaptation, charting the Joker at his very worst and most memorable. If you don€™t know the story by now, you need to stop wasting your life and go and read it. Why We Should Care: It should have been a film by now, but the material was always going to be a difficult sell, so seeing it adapted in any form is a bonus. And it€™s especially pertinent to see the iconic source that inspired all three cinematic Jokers realised finally.
